If they guarantee major media placements (or radio play) before looking at or discussing your project, it’s likely too good to be true.
Why? It is unethical for a journalist or media contact to guarantee a story or write up about a project without due diligence. Even if they maintain great relationships with their media contacts (as we do), they cannot guarantee a placement.
In our case, what we can do is guarantee that we will reach out to our media contacts on our clients behalf. We have a great track record with them for getting things placed because, simply put, we do not send them products of poor quality. That is why it’s absolutely vital to do all of the preparations beforehand in making sure you’re sending them a good product. Ultimately, it all comes down to the quality of the content. Content is key.

If you’re asked to pay using a Green Dot money card, cash, or another non-traceable form of payment, BEWARE! Always make your payment via a business checking account, PayPal, or any verified, trusted payment source that shows proof of payment.
.
If you have not talked directly to the person whose name is on the invoice/contract you were sent, verify the source before sending any payment.
It’s not always the case that you’ll talk directly with the person at the head of the company, especially with larger companies. But if it happens in conjunction with some of the other warning signs mentioned, then you may have a red flag. Verify that the paperwork is legitimately sent from the person or company it claims to be by going to the company’s official website and sending an email via the contact info listed directly on the site (not the emails listed on the paperwork you were sent). Ask if someone can verify the details included in your proposal.
You could easily be the victim of fraudulent activity by a person who has gained access to a company’s invoice/contract, i.e. a previous employee. Take the proper steps to protect yourself and do your research before sending payment.
